Heavy tanks
Panzer VI Tiger (Porsche)
Description
This Wehrmacht heavy tank was developed by Porsche in parallel with the Panzer VI Tiger. On April 20, 1942, Hitler's birthday, both tanks were presented to the Führer at Wolf's Lair, his headquarters in East Prussia.
Its armor plating was the same as in the serial Tiger, but the engine and transmission were different. Its crude electric transmission made maneuvering difficult, and it required the further training of driver-mechanics and repair service specialists. Besides this, the machine had insufficient clearance and drive power. Despite the Fuhrer's personal affection for Ferdinand Porsche, the Commission decided after further testing that the company Henschel would be honored with the production order.
