Heavy tanks
Panzer VI Tiger II
Description
Also known as the King Tiger or Royal Tiger, this was the final stage of a heavy tank race of World War II. It was developed by Porsche in 1943, and announced in 1944 to replace the Tiger I.
It is the most powerful mass-produced tank of the war, and boasted powerful armor: 150mm on the front, and 82mm on the sides and rear. And thanks to its 88mm KwK 43 L/71, the Tiger II could take down any enemy tank on the field. Its Maybach HL 230 engine rated at 700 hp, and the tank clocked at 40 km/h. In total, 489 units were produced.
A number of shortcomings would be eliminated in the next version of the Tiger, developed by Krupp. However, this project never came to be.
