Light vehicles (armored vehicles)
Sd.Kfz. 222
Description
This German light armored vehicle remained in mass production until 1944. It served most often as an intelligence or command vehicle, and could be effectively used to suppress small emplacements.
Its shaped hull was formed of rolled armor plates 8mm thick.
It was armed with a 20mm KwK cannon, and alongside the main gun was mounted a 7.92mm machine gun. Both cannon and machine gun boasted an electric trigger, a separate one for each weapon.
Before battle, the turret’s open top was covered with a protective mesh, to protect the crew from falling hand grenades.
