Light vehicles (armored vehicles)

Sd.Kfz. 250

Description

The Wehrmacht produced over seven thousand of these light armored half-tracks, in various modification. Serial production began in June 1941. The Sd.Kfz. 250 was based on the chassis of the standard half-tracked tractor.

It boasted a 7.92mm machine gun, placed ahead of the fighting compartment and covered with armor plates. In the rear was mounted a second machine gun, which was capable of firing at airborne targets. They were used as command and communications vehicles, assault artillery, and motorized infantry support.

Field Marshal Rommel enjoyed the use of this unit at his command post.
