Tank destroyer

Jagdpanther Sd. Kfz. 173

Description

This heavy self-propelled gun isbuilt on the base of the Panther PzKpfw V Ausf. G tank. It entered production in January 1944. By the end, 415 units had been produced.

It was one of the most successful of the self-propelled guns. Unlike the Panther, this gun carried the 88mm semiautomatic Pak 43/3 – the same one enjoyed by the Royal Tiger. It improved upon the guns of the USSR and the Allies by every measure. Its body was made of steel plates, welded then laminated smooth. It even came supplied with underwater gear, in case a water obstacle presented itself.

The Jagdpanther made a name for itself in Ardennes, where it served as cover for the invading forces.
