In the period from 1927 to 1930, Soviet artillery still traced its bloodline to the tsarist army, but was undergoing significant design improvements. In these three years, the power and range of artillery fire increased on average by half. A great effort was invested in upgrading the artillery of all military divisions, including high power artillery. Soviet designers were hard at work developed long-range missiles, as well as new types of armor-piercing shells. The casings and firing devices of all Soviet shells were produced domestically.
